STORIES FROM THE FIELD

Technical and Strategic Support Successes

Wisconsin African American Tobacco Prevention Network

The Center for Black Health & Equity is family to us. It's been a joy receiving technical and strategic support from them. They have been instrumental in helping to advance our mission to improve Black health and advance health equity.

The Center has partnered with us to support the implementation of the state-funded Wisconsin African American Tobacco Prevention Network.

The Center has engaged with us as allies and helped make Wisconsin a national leader in observing No Menthol Sunday through sermons, proclamations, community events, and by engaging retailers to not sell mentholated tobacco on that Sunday.

Our network is dedicated to addressing health disparities through a social justice and health equity lens. Recent successes include multiple campaigns aimed at providing COVID-19 and cessation support for public housing residents in Milwaukee, the development of a health equity and social justice subcommittee, and multiple efforts to raise awareness of Menthol, including strong community engagement on No Menthol Sunday. Without the support of The Center for Black Health & Equity, these successes would not be possible.

The Center has engaged with us as allies and helped make Wisconsin a national leader in observing No Menthol Sunday through sermons, proclamations, community events, and by engaging retailers to not sell mentholated tobacco on that Sunday. They have also helped us to build media literacy in the communities that we serve through our collaboration with them in the Truth Check Campaign.
